1989 No. 292 NATIONAL HEALTH REGULATIONS (AMENDMENT) - REG 2

2. After regulation 29 of the National Health Regulations the following
regulation is inserted:
Prescribed business-definition of "accident and sickness insurance business"
in subsection 67 (4) of the Act

"29AAA. (1) For the purposes of paragraph (b) of the definition of 'accident
and sickness insurance business' in subsection 67 (4) of the Act, business of
the following kind is prescribed, namely, the business (other than excluded
business) of undertaking liability, by way of insurance, to pay a lump sum, or
to make periodic payments, on the happening of a personal accident, disease or
sickness, where the extent of the insurer's liability is calculated by
reference to, or is in any way contingent upon, a period of time during which
a person is a patient in a hospital.

"(2) In subregulation (1), 'excluded business' means the business referred to
in subregulation (1) where liability is undertaken under a contract of
insurance that:

   (a)  is entered into before the commencement of this regulation; and

   (b)  includes a condition under which renewal of the contract is
        guaranteed.".
