QUARANTINE REGULATIONS 2000 2000 NO. 129 - REG 44

Cost of medical services
(1)
The Commonwealth is not liable to pay medical expenses incurred for:

(a)
the attendance of the person before the medical practitioner mentioned in regulation 43; or

(b)
the examination of the person by the medical practitioner; or

(c)
any other medical service received by the person from the medical practitioner.

(2)
However, if a person fails to pay the amount, or part of the amount, of medical expenses mentioned in subregulation (1) incurred by the person, the Minister may pay that amount, or that part of the amount, for the person out of money made available for the purpose by the Parliament.

(3)
An amount paid for a person under subregulation (2) is a debt due to the Commonwealth and may be recovered from the person by action in a court of competent jurisdiction.
