1997 No. 25 RADIOCOMMUNICATIONS STANDARD (CORDLESS TELEPHONE) No. 1 of 1997 - REG 3

Standard for cordless telephone
3. (1) For paragraph 162 (1) (a) of the Act, a cordless telephone must not be
capable of being operated, by itself or as part of a cordless telephone
service, in a frequency band other than:

   (a)  in a cordless telephone frequency band; or

   (b)  in the range of frequencies mentioned in column 3 of the Schedule to
        the Radiocommunications Class Licence (Low Interference Potential
        Devices) No. 1 of 1993.

(2) For paragraph 162 (1) (a) of the Act, the standard for the performance of
a cordless telephone that is capable of being operated in a cordless telephone
frequency band is:

   (a)  the standard set out in Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS
        4281:1995, other than:
    (i) clause 1 of the standard ("Scope"); and

    (ii) paragraph 5.4 ("Equipment markings"); 
to the extent to which the Australian Standard sets out requirements
applicable in Australia; and

   (b)  the standard set out in those provisions of Australian/New Zealand
        Standard AS/NZS 3548 that are adopted or applied by Australian/New
        Zealand Standard AS/NZS 4281:1995. [NOTE: Devices operating on a
        frequency band other than a cordless telephone frequency band may be
        subject to requirements specified in standards under the
        Telecommunications Act 1991 or in class licences made under the
        Radiocommunications Act 1992.]
