Australian National Maritime Museum Act 1990

Australian National Maritime Museum Regulations (Amendment)

The Australian National Maritime Museum Act 1990 (the Act) established the Australian National Maritime Museum as a statutory authority on 20 December 1990. Regulations have been made under the Act to assist the operations of the Museum.

Paragraph 54 (1) (d) of the Act provides that the Governor-General may make regulations to fix charges for entering any Australian National Maritime Museum premises.

The Regulations fix entry charges for the Museum as follows:

•       Adult $7.00

•       Child $3.50

•       Concession $4.50

•       Family $17.50

Definitions of these categories are:

•       Adult: minimum age of sixteen years;

•       Child: minimum age of five years (children under five years will be admitted free);

•       Concession: Social Security and Veterans benefits recipients and their dependants and full time school, college or university students able to produce current appropriate identification;

•       Family: a group of two adults and up to four children with any additional children being charged $1 each.

In addition the Regulations provide for free entry to the museum to the following groups:

•       staff and others entering the Museum for Museum purposes;

•       teachers and helpers accompanying school groups;

•       members of associations affiliated with the Council. of Australian Museum Associations (CAMA), members of the International Congress of Maritime Museums (ICMM) and members of the International Council of Museums (ICOM); and

•       persons who are guests of Museum Council members, the Director of the Museum or staff.

In addition, the Director may determine on a case by case basis that other persons may be admitted free or at a discount for promotional purposes, for educational purposes or to support access and equity principles for disadvantaged groups.

The Regulations commence on the date of gazettal.
