PASSPORTS REGULATIONS (AMENDMENT) 1997 NO. 180

Passports Regulations (Amendment)

Section 12 of the Passports Act 1938 (the Act) provides that the Governor-General may make regulations for the purposes of the Act.

Regulation 13 of the Passports Regulations provides that fees are payable in respect of passports and travel documents as specified in Schedule 2 of the Passports Regulations.

The purpose of these amendments is to give effect to the announcement by the Treasurer in the budget on 14 May 1997 to increase fees for passport issue with effect from 1 July 1997.

A new ' Schedule 2 of the Passports Regulations specifies the revised fees to be charged for the issue and renewal of and the placement of observations on travel documents. For example, the fee charged for the issue of an ordinary passport for an adult has been increased from $120.00 to $126.00.
