(1) The Electoral Commissioner may appoint any of the following persons as an election official--(a) a member of staff of the Electoral Commission,(b) a person, or class of persons, prescribed by the regulations.
(2) A person is not eligible for appointment as an election official unless--(a) if the person resides in the State--the person is enrolled for a district, or(b) in any other case--the person is enrolled in any other State or Territory of the Commonwealth as an elector for the House of Representatives.A person is not ineligible for appointment as an election official for a district merely because the person is not enrolled for that district.
(3) The Electoral Commissioner is to appoint an election official as the election manager for each electoral district for which a poll is required to be conducted. A single election official may be appointed as the election manager for more than one electoral district.
(4) The Electoral Commissioner is to appoint an election official as a voting centre manager for a voting centre.
(5) A person ceases to be an election manager or voting centre manager if he or she ceases to be an election official.
