GARVAN INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL RESEARCH ACT 1984 - SECT 5
Objects of the Institute
(1) The principal object of the Institute is to further knowledge in the field
of human medicine by promoting the conduct of research in that field, being
research which is consistent with the tenets of the Sisters of Charity.
(2)
Without affecting the generality of subsection (1), the Institute shall, in so
far as the resources available permit, aim: (a) to discover the nature and
causes of human diseases and other human afflictions,
(b) to improve methods
of preventing, diagnosing and treating those diseases and other afflictions,
(c) to provide such services in the field of human medicine as the Board, with
the concurrence of the Minister, may determine,
(d) to provide, and aid in
the provision of, educational programmes relating to matters the subject of
research conducted by the Institute, and
(e) to disseminate, within and
outside the State, information concerning the work of the Institute.
