TRANSPORT ADMINISTRATION ACT 1988 - SECT 45A
General functions of Chief Investigator
(1) The Chief Investigator has the functions conferred or imposed on the
Chief Investigator by or under this or any other Act.
(2) The principal
functions of the Chief Investigator are-- (a) to conduct investigations into
rail and passenger transport accidents or incidents under the Passenger
Transport Act 1990 , and
(b) to determine the causes of those accidents or
incidents, and
(c) to report on the outcome of any investigation to the
Minister, and
(d) to review investigation reports prepared by transport
authorities and other transport operators, and
(e) at the request of the
Minister, to investigate and advise the Minister about any matter related to
the safe operation of transport services.
(3) The Chief Investigator may, to
the extent necessary to carry out his or her functions in this State, exercise
the Chief Investigator's functions within or outside this State.
