If a defendant charged with
two or more offences, whether of a like or different nature, does not appear
at the time and place appointed for the hearing of the charges by the orders
relating thereto, the Judge, upon proof in the manner prescribed of the due
service of the orders upon him a reasonable time before the time appointed for
his appearance, may proceed to hear and determine all or any of the charges
together and adjudicate thereon in the absence of the defendant.
