The Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory enacts as follows:

Part 1 Preliminary matters
1 Short title

This Act may be cited as the Assembly Members and Statutory Officers (Remuneration and Other Entitlements) Amendment Act 2017.

2 Commencement

(1) Part 3 is taken to have commenced on 1 January 2017.

(2) The remainder of this Act commences on the day fixed by the Administrator by Gazette notice.

Part 2 Amendment of Assembly Members and Statutory Officer (Remuneration and Other Entitlements) Act
3 Act amended

This Part amends the Assembly Members and Statutory Officers (Remuneration and Other Entitlements) Act.

4 Section 5 amended

(1) Section 5(1)

omit

all words after "member"

insert

if no determination for that entitlement has been made by the Tribunal.

(2) Section 5(2)

omit

under section 4

insert

by the Tribunal

5 Section 21 amended

Section 21(3) to (7)

omit, insert

(3) The Minister must, within 6 sitting days after complying with subsection (2), table a copy of the determination in the Assembly.

(4) The determination takes effect from the date specified in the determination.

Part 3 Revocation of Determinations
6 Determinations revoked

The following determinations by the Minister are revoked:

(a) the determination made by instrument entitled "Determination of Entitlement" dated 23 May 2016 in respect of Assembly members on ceasing to be a member;

(b) the determination made by instrument entitled "Determination of Entitlement" dated 23 May 2016 in respect of the Assembly member holding the office of Deputy Leader of the Opposition.

Part 4 Repeal of Act
7 Repeal of Act

This Act is repealed on the day after it commences.
