EXPLANATORY STATEMENT





GENERAL OUTLINE

This bill repeals redundant Appropriation Acts that are currently listed on the Statute Book.

Each year, an annual Appropriation Act is handed down as part of the Budget, which provides the legal authority for the Government’s funding decisions in each year’s Budget.

There are a number of Appropriation Acts listed in the Statute Book, dating back to 1978, which should be repealed as they serve no ongoing purpose.

The purpose of this bill is to repeal redundant Appropriation Acts that are currently listed on the Statute Book.

NOTES ON CLAUSES

Clause 1. Short Title

This is a formal clause which provides for the citation of the bill. The bill when passed will be cited as the Appropriation Acts Repeal Bill 2016.

Clause 2. Repeals

This clause sets out the Acts specified in the Schedule which will be repealed.

Clause 3. Expiry of Act

The Appropriation Acts Repeal Bill 2016 expires the day after it commences.
