EXPLANATORY STATEMENT

GENERAL OUTLINE

This Bill amends the Constitutional Convention (Election) Act.

The purpose of this Bill is to prevent expiry of the Act at the end of 31 December 2013.

NOTES ON CLAUSES

Clause 1. Short Title

This is a formal clause which provides for the citation of the Bill. The Bill when passed will be cited as the Constitutional Convention (Election) Amendment Act 2013.

Clause 2. Act Amended

This Act amends the Constitutional Convention (Election) Act.

Clause 3. Section 3 Amended

Amends the definition of “Constitutional Convention” to remove reference to dates.

Clause 4. Part 9 Repealed

Part 9 (202) is repealed thereby ensuring continuity of the Act beyond 31 December 2013.

Clause 5. Expiry of Act

This clause causes this Act to expire the day after assent as it is no longer required once it has amended the Principal Act on assent.
