ADOPTION ACT 2009 - SECT 65
Chief executive may ask corresponding officer to renounce guardianship
(1) This section applies if— (a) the chief executive wishes to arrange for a
child’s adoption; and
(b) a corresponding officer for another State has
guardianship of the child under a law of the other State substantially
corresponding to section 57 .
(2) The chief executive may ask the
corresponding officer to give the chief executive a document under which the
officer renounces the officer’s guardianship of the child.
(3) If the chief
executive receives the document mentioned in subsection (2) , the chief
executive becomes guardian of the child. Note— The chief executive may also
ask the corresponding officer to give the chief executive any of the following
documents— • a consent to the adoption of the child given under the law of
the other State that is held by the officer
• a document mentioned in
section 42 .
