ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER COMMUNITIES (JUSTICE, LAND AND OTHER MATTERS) ACT 1984 - SECT 20
Membership
(1) The community justice group for a community area comprises the number of
members prescribed under a regulation.
(2) The Minister— (a) may appoint
the members of a community justice group by publishing notice of the
appointments on the Queensland Courts website; and
(b) must give each member
written notice of the member’s appointment.
(3) A regulation may make
provision about the following— (a) eligibility of persons to be members;
(b) nomination of persons as members;
(c) terms on which, and period, a
member holds office.
(4) However, members must, to the greatest practicable
extent, include at least 1 representative of each of the main
indigenous social groupings in the area.
(5) Members must be of good standing
in the community.
(6) If the Minister decides a member of a
community justice group is no longer eligible or suitable for appointment to
the membership of the community justice group, the Minister must— (a) revoke
the member’s appointment by written notice given to the member; and
(b)
publish notice of the revocation on the Queensland Courts website.
(7) In
this section—
"indigenous social grouping" means a group of indigenous persons sharing a
common basis of social affiliation, including family relationship, language,
traditional land ownership and historical association.
"Queensland Courts website" means— (a) www.courts.qld.gov.au; or
(b)
another website authorised by the chief executive for this section.
