Allowances to witnesses
24 Allowances to witnesses
(1) Any witness appearing before a commission shall be paid a reasonable sum
for the expenses of the witness’s attendance in accordance with the scale
prescribed under a regulation.
(2) In the absence of a prescribed scale, the
chairperson of the commission may authorise the payment of such sum as the
chairperson deems reasonable.
(3) The claim to allowance of any witness
appearing before a commission, certified by the chairperson of the commission,
shall be paid by the Treasurer out of moneys to be appropriated by Parliament
for the purpose.
(4) A regulation may prescribe a scale of allowances to be
paid to any witness summoned under this Act for the witness’s travelling
expenses and maintenance while absent from the witness’s usual place of
abode.
