Power to require name and address
219 Power to require name and address
(1) This section applies if— (a) an inspector finds a person committing an
offence against this Act or a corresponding law; or
(b) an inspector finds a
person in circumstances that lead, or has information that leads, the
inspector reasonably to suspect the person has just committed an offence
against this Act or a corresponding law.
(2) The inspector may require the
person to state the person’s name and residential address.
(3) When making
the requirement, the inspector must warn the person that it is an offence to
fail to state the person’s name or residential address, unless the person
has a reasonable excuse.
(4) The inspector may require the person to give
evidence of the correctness of the stated name or residential address if the
inspector reasonably suspects the stated name or address to be false.
(5) A
requirement under subsection (2) or (4) is called a
"personal details requirement" .
