Applicant for local registration—show cause event
192 Applicant for local registration—show cause event
(1) This section applies if— (a) a person is applying for registration as a
foreign lawyer under this Act; and
(b) a show cause event in relation to the
person happened, whether before or after the commencement of this section,
after the person first became an overseas-registered foreign lawyer.
(2) As
part of the application, the applicant must give the law society a written
statement, as required under a regulation— (a) about the show cause event;
and
(b) explaining why, despite the event, the applicant is a fit and proper
person to be a locally registered foreign lawyer.
(3) However, the applicant
need not give a statement under subsection (2) if the applicant has previously
given the law society a statement under this section, or a notice and
statement under section 193 , for the event explaining why, despite the event,
the applicant is a fit and proper person to be a locally registered foreign
lawyer.
