487 Protection from liability for notification of conduct or making a
complaint
(1) This section applies if a person makes a complaint or otherwise gives
information to the commissioner, the law society or the bar association about
conduct that is— (a) conduct of an Australian lawyer or a law practice
employee; or
(b) a possible contravention of section 24 or 25 .
(2) The
person is not liable, civilly (including in an action for defamation),
criminally or under an administrative process for making the complaint, giving
the notice or otherwise giving information to the commissioner, the law
society or the bar association relating to the complaint or notice, including,
for example, giving further information under section 431 .
(3) Also, merely
because the person makes the complaint, gives the notice or otherwise gives
information as mentioned in subsection (2) , the person can not be held to
have— (a) breached any code of professional etiquette or ethics; or
(b)
departed from accepted standards of professional conduct.
