Recognisance—conviction on indictment
30 Recognisance—conviction on indictment
(1) An offender convicted on indictment may, in addition to, or instead of,
any sentence to which the offender is liable, be ordered— (a) to be released
if the offender enters into a recognisance, with or without sureties, in such
amount as the court considers appropriate, conditioned that the offender keep
the peace and be of good behaviour for a period fixed by the court; and
(b)
to be imprisoned until the recognisance mentioned in paragraph (a) is entered
into.
(2) Imprisonment ordered under subsection (1) (b) — (a) must not be
longer than 1 year; and
(b) together with any other imprisonment that is
ordered for the offence, must not be longer than the longest term of
imprisonment for which the offender might be sentenced to be imprisoned
without fine.
