Designated medical officer must advise child’s parents about extension of order
204 Designated medical officer must advise child’s parents about extension
of order
(1) This section applies if a care and treatment order for a child has been
extended by a designated medical officer.
(2) The designated medical officer
extending the order must— (a) advise the child’s parents about the
extension of the order including the following— (i) the reasons for the
extension;
(ii) the time when the order ends; and
(b) if asked by the
parent, give the parent a copy of the reasons for the extension of the order.
(3) However, the designated medical officer need not comply with subsection
(2) if the officer reasonably believes— (a) someone may be charged with a
criminal offence for harm to the child and the officer’s compliance with the
subsection may jeopardise an investigation into the offence; or
(b)
compliance with the subsection may expose the child to harm.
