RESIDENTIAL TENANCIES AND ROOMING ACCOMMODATION ACT 2008 - SECT 251
Changing locks
251 Changing locks
(1) The resident may request the provider to change or repair a lock that
secures entry to the resident’s room if the resident reasonably believes
there is the likelihood of— (a) risk to the resident’s safety; or
(b)
theft of, or damage to, the resident’s belongings.
(2) The provider must
not act unreasonably in failing to agree to change or repair the lock.
(3)
Also, the provider must change or repair the lock if the request states it is
made for the purpose of protecting the resident from domestic violence.
(4)
If the provider changes a lock under subsection (3) , the provider must not
give a key for the changed lock to any person other than the resident without
the resident’s agreement or a reasonable excuse. Penalty— Maximum
penalty—50 penalty units.
