Obligation of auto parts dismantlers to report written-off vehicles
150 Obligation of auto parts dismantlers to report written-off vehicles
(1) This section applies if a person, in the course of the person’s business
as an auto parts dismantler, assesses either of the following as a total
loss— (a) a notifiable vehicle that is registered or equivalently
registered;
(b) a notifiable vehicle in Queensland that is not registered or
equivalently registered.
(2) The person must give the chief executive the
notifiable information for the vehicle before the earlier of the following
happens— (a) the expiry of 7 days after the person takes possession of the
vehicle;
(b) the person— (i) demolishes or dismantles the vehicle; or
(ii)
sells or otherwise disposes of the vehicle; or
(iii) sells or otherwise
disposes of any part of the vehicle that has a chassis number or VIN.
Penalty— Maximum penalty—50 penalty units.
(3) However, the person
need not give the chief executive the notifiable information if— (a) the
person does not demolish or dismantle the notifiable vehicle; and
(b) someone
else has already given the notifiable information to the chief executive.
