6—Composition of Board
(1) The Board consists
of 8 members appointed by the Governor of whom—
(a) 1
must be a veterinary surgeon nominated by the South Australian Division of The
Australian Veterinary Association; and
(b) 6
must be persons nominated by the Minister and of these—
(i)
1 (the presiding member) must be a legal practitioner;
and
(ii)
3 must be veterinary surgeons of whom at least—
(A) 1 must have experience or knowledge
relating to animals used for primary production or horses; and
(B) 1 must have experience or knowledge
relating to other animals; and
(iii)
2 must be persons (not being veterinary surgeons) of whom
at least 1 must have experience or knowledge relating to animal health, safety
and welfare; and
(c) 1
must be a veterinary surgeon engaged in teaching veterinary science nominated
by the Council of The University of Adelaide.
(2) At least 1 of the
members of the Board nominated by the Minister must be a woman and at least 1
must be a man.
(3) The Governor may
appoint a person to be a deputy of a member and a person so appointed may act
as a member of the Board in the absence of the member.
(4) The requirements
of qualification and nomination made by this section in relation to the
appointment of a member extend to the appointment of a deputy of that member.
(5) If a body fails to
make a nomination within a period specified by the Minister, the Governor may
appoint a person nominated by the Minister and the person so appointed will be
taken to have been appointed after due nomination under this section.
