CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT (CONSTITUTIONAL RECOGNITION OF ABORIGINAL PEOPLE) BILL 2016 BILL 53 OF 2016

                                  CLAUSE NOTES

 Constitution Amendment (Constitutional Recognition of Aboriginal People) Bill
                                   2016

Clause 1:      Short title
Clause 1 specifies the short title to be used when citing the Act.


Clause 2:      Commencement
Clause 2 provides for the Act to commence on the day on which it receives the Royal
Assent.


Clause 3:      Principal Act
Clause 3 provides that the Principal Act to which the amendments apply is the
Constitution Act 1934.


Clause 4:      Preamble amended
Clause 4 inserts a new paragraph into the Preamble of the Principle Act that is a
statement of acknowledgement and recognition of Tasmanian Aboriginal people as
Tasmania’s First People.


Clause 5:      Repeal of Act
Clause 5 is a standard provision included in all amendment Acts that provides for the
repeal of the amending Act after its provisions have come into effect and been
incorporated into the Principal Act.
