                                 Greater Hobart Bill 2019

The Greater Hobart Bill provides a framework to support collaborative decision making
between the Clarence, Glenorchy, Hobart and Kingborough councils and the Tasmanian
Government.
The legislation is a key commitment identified in the Hobart City Deal, signed on Sunday,
24 February 2019, and builds on the vision identified through that partnership.
The Greater Hobart Bill:

      contains objectives that identify priority areas for collaboration;
    requires the establishment of a work program identifying actions to achieve the
       prescribed objectives; and
    provides for the establishment of governance arrangements to support the
       development and implementation of the work program.

The governance arrangements established through the draft Bill are:

    Greater Hobart Committee (Ministers, Lord Mayor and Mayors)
    Greater Hobart Advisory Group (Senior Officials).

The Greater Hobart Advisory Group is responsible for developing the work program, which
requires the approval of the Greater Hobart Committee to come into effect.
For the Greater Hobart Committee to approve a work program, a majority vote is required,
which must include a minimum of three out of the four council members voting in favour.
