FACT SHEET Greater Hobart Bill 2019 The Greater Hobart Bill provides a framework to support collaborative decision making between the Clarence, Glenorchy, Hobart and Kingborough councils and the Tasmanian Government. The legislation is a key commitment identified in the Hobart City Deal, signed on Sunday, 24 February 2019, and builds on the vision identified through that partnership. The Greater Hobart Bill: contains objectives that identify priority areas for collaboration; requires the establishment of a work program identifying actions to achieve the prescribed objectives; and provides for the establishment of governance arrangements to support the development and implementation of the work program. The governance arrangements established through the draft Bill are: Greater Hobart Committee (Ministers, Lord Mayor and Mayors) Greater Hobart Advisory Group (Senior Officials). The Greater Hobart Advisory Group is responsible for developing the work program, which requires the approval of the Greater Hobart Committee to come into effect. For the Greater Hobart Committee to approve a work program, a majority vote is required, which must include a minimum of three out of the four council members voting in favour. Hobart City Deal This partnership provides a shared vision for the central, Greater Hobart area Greater Hobart Act The Greater Hobart Bill is a key initiative being progressed through the Hobart City Deal partnership, and prescribes the agreed objectives the four central councils and Tasmanian Government will collaboratively implement Work program The Bill requires the development of a work program, which identifies actions to achieve the agreed objectives. Review of Southern Regional The Bill provides a process for the Committee to write to Land Use Strategy the Minister for Planning to seek an amendment to the Southern Regional Land Use Strategy to support the implementation of the work program, where required.
