GOVERNMENT HOUSE LAND AMENDMENT BILL BILL 4 OF 2017

                                        FACT SHEET

Government House Land Amendment Bill 2017

The Government House Land Amendment Bill 2017 (the Bill) makes amendments to the
Government House Land Act 1964 (the Act).

The principal purpose of the Bill is to amend the Act to allow for the Government House site
to be used for commercial use as well as the residence of the Governor.

Government House has developed its own “Forward Plan 2015-2025”. The Forward Plan
outlines a number of extra activities to be undertaken at Government House to enhance
general public interaction with the site, as well as opportunities for using Government House to
hold events by the Premier or a Minister.

At present the Act only allows for the Government House site to be used as the residence of
the Governor.

The Bill amends the Act to provide Government House with the capacity to undertake
commercial activities as outlined in their Forward Plan, such as:

      A gift shop;

 Hiring out of croquet lawn and tennis courts; and

    Event co-hosting partnerships.

Revenue raised from these activities will go towards Government House’s ongoing
maintenance; reducing dependency of State funding for maintenance.

The Treasurer has provided written advice to the Premier approving revenues being retained
by Government House in the existing Operating account with Special Deposits and Trust
Account.
