HEALTH PROFESSIONALS REGISTRATION (MISCELLANEOUS
AMENDMENTS) BILL 2008
The Bill amends the eleven health professionals registration Acts to provide more
flexibility for the appointment of a Registrar for each of the following ten Boards: the
Chiropractors and Osteopaths Registration Board, Dental Board of Tasmania, Dental
Prosthetists Registration Board, Medical Council of Tasmania, Medical Radiation Science
Professionals Registration Board of Tasmania, Optometrists Registration Board, Pharmacy
Board of Tasmania, Physiotherapists Registration Board of Tasmania, Podiatrists
Registration Board of Tasmania and Psychologists Registration Board of Tasmania; and for
the appointment of the Executive Officer to the Nursing Board of Tasmania.
The amendments provide that the Registrar or Executive Officer may be an employee
of the Board; or an independent contractor to the Board; or a person whose services
are made available to the Board by arrangement.
The amendments also expand the protection from liability provision to reflect the
potential changes to the status of a Registrar or Executive Officer.
