JIM BACON FOUNDATION (WINDING-UP) BILL 28 OF 2013

                           FACT SHEET

    Jim Bacon Foundation (Winding-Up)
                              Bill 2013
In 2004, following the passing of the late Premier of Tasmania, Jim Bacon, the
Jim Bacon Foundation was established by statute as a way of
commemorating Mr Bacon's memory and contribution to the State of
Tasmania.

The purpose of the Jim Bacon Foundation is to -

   a) provide financial and other assistance to people who are undergoing
treatment for cancer, and to organisations that provide support to
people who undergoing cancer treatment; and

   b) establish a scholarship program for up to three students per annum
who are studying either the care and treatment of cancer, visual arts
      or political science.

Since 2004, for a number of reasons donations to and the activities of the
Jim Bacon Foundation have decreased which has made it difficult for the
Foundation to continue its work.

The Ponting Foundation, set up by Ricky and Rianna Ponting with similar
objectives to the
Jim Bacon Foundation, has expressed an interest in taking over the work of
the Foundation. This Bill will transfer the assets of the current Jim Bacon
Foundation to the Ponting Foundation to continue the support of young
cancer sufferers and their families.

The Bill also provides for the wind-up of the activities of Jim Bacon
Foundation, including the transfer of assets and liabilities, dealing with any
legal matters and the repeal of the
Jim Bacon Foundation Act 2004.

The scholarship program commenced under the Jim Bacon Foundation Act
will continue through a separate grant to the University of Tasmania.
