TASMANIA TOGETHER PROGRESS BOARD REPEAL BILL 48 OF 2012

                            FACT SHEET
      Tasmania Together Progress Board
              Repeal Bill 2012
The purpose of the Tasmania Together Progress Board Repeal Bill 2012 is to
repeal the Tasmania Together Progress Board Act 2001 in order to disband
the Tasmania Together Progress Board.

The Tasmania Together Progress Board Act 2001 establishes the Tasmania
Together (TT) Progress Board to monitor, promote and report on TT. The
purpose of the Act is to establish the Board and prescribe its membership,
functions and powers.

Repealing the Act will enable the Board to be disbanded and the resources
of the Board redirected to supporting the Government's key priorities in data
collection, performance reporting and community consultation and
engagement. These include the `Stats Matter' project, a joint initiative of the
Tasmanian Government and the Australian Bureau of Statistics, and the
development of the Tasmanian Government Framework for Community
Engagement.

Through the `Stats Matter' project, a whole-of-government approach to the
production, use, management and reporting of data is being developed.
This project will improve the coordination and management of data across
government and ensure that agencies are able to maximise the strategic
and enabling capacity of data they collect.

The Tasmanian Government Framework for Community Engagement is
currently being developed to provide practical guidance to assist agencies
to consult effectively with the community in the delivery of policy and
services. This Framework will build on and extend the community consultation
work undertaken by TT over the last 11 years.

At the time it was developed, TT was world-leading in the areas of
performance reporting and community engagement. However, in the
decade since TT was established there has been significant progress in data
collection, performance reporting and community engagement. Disbanding
the Board and redirecting its resources will enable the Government to build
on and enhance the way it engages with communities to deliver best
practice policy and services in this new environment.

The TT Secretariat will be integrated into the Department of Premier and
Cabinet in order to support the Government's broader agenda around data

2 collection and performance reporting. This will include supporting the `Stats Matter' project. There will also be a review of TT benchmarks to ensure that those that align with the Government's policy priorities continue to be reported against. The TT Unit's responsibilities will then include maintaining the data around those key benchmarks. The Bill commences on a day to be proclaimed. This will enable the Board to be disbanded following its final meeting for 2012.
