(1) An officer may require a veterinary surgeon to carry out any examination or take any sample as may be necessary to determine (a) the extent of any injury, disease or suffering endured by an animal; or(b) whether any substance was being administered to an animal; or(c) the cause of death of an animal.(2) An officer, at the request of a club registered under the Racing Regulation Act 2004 , must require a veterinary surgeon to carry out any test necessary to determine whether any substance has been administered to an animal detained under section 17 or 18 .(3) An officer may take any sample if the taking of the sample does not constitute veterinary services as defined in the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1987 .
