Section 44 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting subsection (1) and substituting the following subsection:

(1)  The mayor and deputy mayor elected under section 43 are to be elected for a period of 2 years and hold office from the date of issue of the certificate of election in respect of the election for that office until the date of issue of the next certificate of election in respect of the election for that office.
