(1) The Director is responsible for (a) regulating and controlling racing to ensure that it is conducted with integrity; and(b) monitoring the administration of racing; and(c) researching and investigating racing and related matters; and(d) advising the Minister on racing and related matters and making appropriate policy recommendations for the development of racing; and(e) liaising with authorities and persons responsible for racing and related matters in this State and, as appropriate, elsewhere; and(f) representing the State and the local industry on national bodies and in national forums generally concerned with racing and related matters; and(g) monitoring, coordinating and setting standards, in consultation with the Councils, for the training of people employed or otherwise engaged in the racing industry; and(h) providing administrative support to the regulatory panels and the TRAB; and(i) such other functions as are imposed on the Director by this or any other Act.(2) The Director is also responsible for (a) controlling race nominations, acceptances, field selections, handicapping, barrier draws and scratchings in harness racing; and(b) controlling race nominations, gradings, field selections, box draws and scratchings in greyhound racing; and(c) providing advice and recommendations to the Tasmanian Thoroughbred Racing Council on the Rules of Racing ; and(d) ensuring that the Rules of Racing for all codes of racing are properly enforced by stewards.
