VEHICLE AND TRAFFIC (VEHICLE OPERATIONS) NOTICE 2003 (S.R. 2003, NO. 92) - REG 27

Conditions on exemption of agricultural vehicles and agricultural combinations

The exemption under clause 26 for a person using, or causing or permitting the use of, an agricultural vehicle or an agricultural combination is subject to the following conditions:
(a) the width of the agricultural vehicle must not exceed 5 metres;
(b) the length of the agricultural vehicle must not exceed 15 metres;
(c) the length of the agricultural combination must not exceed 25 metres;
(d) the height of the agricultural vehicle must not exceed 4.6 metres;
(e) the rear overhang of the agricultural vehicle must not exceed 5.5 metres;
(f) if the agricultural vehicle, other than a tractor, exceeds 2.5 metres in width or 12.5 metres in length, an oversize vehicle sign in accordance with Division 2 of Part 2 of Schedule 3 to the Vehicle Operations Regulations is to be displayed at the front and rear of the vehicle;
(g) if the agricultural combination exceeds 2.5 metres in width or 19 metres in length, an oversize vehicle sign in accordance with Division 2 of Part 2 of Schedule 3 to the Vehicle Operations Regulations, is to be displayed –
(i) at the front and rear of the combination if the agricultural vehicle is not a tractor; and
(ii) at the rear of the combination if the agricultural vehicle is a tractor;
(h) the agricultural machine, or the motor vehicle of an agricultural combination that includes a vehicle that –
(i) exceeds 3.0 metres width in daylight; or
(ii) exceeds 2.5 metres in width or 22 metres in length at night –
must display a yellow rotating warning light in accordance with Part 1 of Schedule 3 to the Vehicle Operations Regulations;
(i) if the agricultural vehicle, other than a tractor, or the agricultural combination exceeds 2.5 metres in width, it must display warning flags in accordance with clause 4 of Schedule 2 to the Vehicle Operations Regulations;
(j) any axle on a tractor which protrudes more than 150 millimetres past the outer wall of a tyre must be painted fluorescent yellow or be covered in a high-visibility material;
(k) an agricultural vehicle that exceeds 3.5 metres in width must not be used at night;
(l) an agricultural vehicle which operates in daylight and exceeds –
(i) 3.5 metres in width; or
(ii) 12.5 metres in length –
must be accompanied by a pilot vehicle that displays warning lights and a warning sign that comply with Schedule 3 to the Vehicle Operations Regulations;
(m) an agricultural vehicle that exceeds 4.5 metres in width in daylight must be accompanied by two pilot vehicles displaying warning lights and warning signs that comply with Schedule 3 to the Vehicle Operations Regulations;
(n) an agricultural combination that exceeds 19 metres in length must be accompanied by a pilot vehicle that displays warning lights and a warning sign that comply with Schedule 3 to the Vehicle Operations Regulations;
(o) if a vehicle operating under this exemption is fitted with headlights, the headlights must be displayed on low beam during daylight;
(p) an agricultural implement towed at night must be fitted with brake lights, tail lights and reflectors at its rear, either fixed to the implement or mounted to a detachable board;
(q) an agricultural vehicle or combination operated at night must display side marker lights showing yellow to the front and red to the rear at intervals of no more than 2 metres along each side of the vehicle or combination.
