Corrections Amendment (Adult Parole
Board) Bill 2018
A Bill for an Act to amend the Corrections Act 1986 and
for other purposes.
The Parliament of Victoria enacts:
Part 1--Preliminary
1 Purposes
The main purposes of this Act are to amend the
Corrections Act 1986--
5 (a) to provide for the appointment of members
of the Adult Parole Board who are victims of
crime or who represent the interests of all
victims of crime; and
(b) to further provide for the constitution of a
10 division of the Adult Parole Board.

Part 1--Preliminary
2 Commencement
(1) Subject to subsection (2), this Act comes into
operation on a day or days to be proclaimed.
(2) If a provision of this Act does not come into
5 operation before 21 August 2019, it comes into
operation on that day.

3 Establishment of Board
After section 61(2)(da) of the Corrections
5 Act 1986 insert--
"(db) one or more persons appointed by the
Governor in Council who are victims of
crime or who represent the interests of all
victims of crime; and".
10 4 Divisions
For section 64(2) of the Corrections Act 1986
substitute--
"(2) Subject to section 74AAB, a division of the
Board consists of at least 4 members of
15 whom--
(a) at least one must be a Judge, retired
Judge, Associate Judge, Magistrate or
retired Magistrate; and
(b) at least one must be a member
20 appointed under section 61(2)(db).
(2A) The chairperson of a division of the Board is
to be the member of that division mentioned
in subsection (2)(a).".
5 Meetings
25 In section 66(5) of the Corrections Act 1986, for
"at least 2" substitute "at least 3".

6 Repeal of amending Act
This Act is repealed on 21 August 2020.
Note
5 The repeal of this Act does not affect the continuing
operation of the amendments made by it (see section 15(1)
of the Interpretation of Legislation Act 1984).
