Country Fire Authority Amendment
(Protecting Volunteer Firefighters)
Bill 2016
A Bill for an Act to amend the Country Fire Authority Act 1958 to
ensure the protection of volunteer firefighters and for other purposes.
The Parliament of Victoria enacts:
1 Purpose
The purpose of this Act is to amend the Country
Fire Authority Act 1958 to ensure the protection
of volunteer firefighters.
5 2 Commencement
This Act comes into operation on the day after the
day on which it receives the Royal Assent.

3 Section 6H substituted--Authority must comply
with the Volunteer Charter
For section 6H of the Country Fire Authority
Act 1958 substitute--
5 "6H Authority must comply with the
Volunteer Charter
(1) The Authority must, in performing its
functions, comply with the commitment and
principles set out in the Volunteer Charter.
10 (2) Without limiting the generality of subsection
(1), the Authority must not enter into any
deed, agreement or other arrangement--
(a) that could have an adverse affect on
the interests of volunteer officers and
15 members under the Volunteer Charter;
or
(b) if a substantial reason for entering
into any such deed, agreement or
other arrangement is to prevent any
20 Commonwealth or Victorian law from
protecting the interests of volunteer
officers and members under the
Volunteer Charter.
(3) Any deed, agreement or other arrangement
25 entered into in contravention of this section
is void.".
4 Repeal of amending Act
This Act is repealed on the first anniversary of its
commencement.
30 Note
The repeal of this Act does not affect the continuing operation
of the amendments made by it (see section 15(1) of the
Interpretation of Legislation Act 1984).
