PARLIAMENT OF VICTORIA Initiated in Assembly 6 June 2001 A BILL to amend the Crimes Act 1958 to validate certain orders purported to have been made for the taking of forensic samples from offenders and for other purposes. Crimes (Validation of Orders) Act 2001 The Parliament of Victoria enacts as follows: 1. Purpose The purpose of this Act is to amend the Crimes Act 1958 to validate certain orders purported to have been made for the taking of forensic samples 5 from offenders. 2. Crimes (Validation of Orders) Act 2001 s. 3 Act No. 3. New section 464ZL inserted See: After section 464ZK of the Crimes Act 1958 Act No. insert-- 6231. Reprint No. 15 "464ZL. Validation of certain orders as at 1 September 5 (1) If, on or before 22 December 2000, an order 1999 and amending under section 464ZF(3) is purported to have Act Nos been made by-- 26/1999, 53/2000, (a) the Magistrates' Court not sitting in 67/2000, 74/2000, open court; or 86/2000 and 92/2000. 10 (b) a magistrate not constituting the LawToday: www.dms. Magistrates' Court-- dpc.vic. gov.au the order is deemed to have, and always to have had, the same force and effect as it would have had if the order had been made 15 by the Magistrates' Court sitting in open court. (2) Sub-section (1) does not affect the rights of the parties in the proceeding known as Lednar, O'Brien and Hill v.
