PARLIAMENT OF VICTORIA Introduced in the Assembly Victims of Crime Assistance Amendment Bill 2007 A Bill for an Act to amend the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 1996 to increase the amounts of special financial assistance that may be awarded under that Act and for other purposes. The Parliament of Victoria enacts: 1 Purpose The purpose of this Act is to amend the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 1996 to increase the amounts of special financial assistance that may 5 be awarded to a primary victim of an act of violence for significant adverse effects experienced or suffered by the victim as a direct result of that act. 561016B.I-14/2/2007 1 BILL LA INTRODUCTION 14/2/2007

 


 

Victims of Crime Assistance Amendment Bill 2007 s. 2 2 Commencement This Act comes into operation on 1 July 2007. 3 Special financial assistance to primary victims for significant adverse effects 5 See: For the Table in section 8A(5) of the Victims of Act No. 81/1996. Victims of Crime Assistance Amendment Bill 2007 s. 4 4 New section 79 inserted After section 78 of the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 1996 insert-- "79 Transitional provision (2007 Amending 5 Act) (1) In this section commencement day means 1 July 2007. (2) The amendment of this Act made by section 3 of the Victims of Crime 10 Assistance Amendment Act 2007 applies only with respect to acts of violence occurring on or after the commencement day and awards made under section 8A in respect of such acts of violence. 15 (3) For the purposes of this section, if an act of violence occurs between two dates, one before and one on or after the commencement day, the act of violence occurs on or after the commencement day.". 20 5 Repeal of Act This Act is repealed on 1 July 2008. 561016B.I-14/2/2007 3 BILL LA INTRODUCTION 14/2/2007
