CORRECTIONS ACT 1986 - SECT 12

Employment under the Public Administration Act

    (1)     There may be employed under Part 3 of the Public Administration Act 2004 a secretary to the Adult Parole Board and such Governors, prison officers, escort officers, principal medical officers, medical officers, Regional Managers, community corrections officers, parole officers, security officers and other officers and employees as are necessary for the purposes of this Act.

    (2)     A parole officer referred to in subsection (1) has all the powers, functions and duties of a community corrections officer.

    (3)     A reference to a community corrections officer in this Act or any other Act, or any regulations made under this or any other Act, or any rules made by a court is taken to include a reference to a parole officer.

    (4)     A prison officer, a prison officer in a class of prison officers or a class of prison officers may also be appointed under subsection (1) as a community corrections officer or as community corrections officers, as the case requires.

Note

Under section 340 of the Serious Offenders Act 2018 , these officers are specified officers for the purposes of that Act.

    (5)     A prison officer or an escort officer, or a class of prison officers or a class of escort officers, may also be appointed under subsection (1) as a security officer or as security officers, as the case requires.
