FIREARMS ACT 1996 - SECT 153

If a firearm, cartridge ammunition, silencer or prescribed item has been surrendered or seized under this Act or any other Act or has been handed in to a police officer and—

        (a)     the owner cannot be found; or

        (b)     it is otherwise necessary for the firearm, cartridge ammunition, silencer or prescribed item to be disposed of—

the Magistrates' Court may, on the application of a police officer, order that the firearm, cartridge ammunition, silencer or prescribed item be destroyed or otherwise disposed of in the manner approved by the Court.
