UNLAWFUL ASSEMBLIES AND PROCESSIONS ACT 1958 - SECT 14

Penalty for refusing to take the oath or affirmation of office

Every person so residing within such municipal district as aforesaid who being appointed a special constable as aforesaid refuses to take the oath or affirmation lastly hereinbefore mentioned when thereunto required by the magistrate so appointing him or by any other magistrate, shall on conviction thereof in a summary way before the Magistrates' Court be liable to a penalty of not more than 0·1 penalty unit. And every person being appointed a special constable as aforesaid who neglects or refuses to appear at the time and place for which he is summoned for the purpose of taking the said oath or affirmation, or having been appointed a special constable as aforesaid and being called upon to serve neglects or refuses to serve as such special constable or to obey such lawful orders and directions as may be given to him for the performance of the duties of his office; shall on conviction in a summary way before the Magistrates' Court for every such neglect be liable to a penalty of not more than 0·1 penalty unit, unless such person proves to the satisfaction of the Magistrates' Court that he was prevented by sickness or other such unavoidable cause as in the judgment of the Magistrates' Court is a sufficient excuse.
