MARINE SAFETY REGULATIONS 2023 - REG 68

Children less than 12 years old to wear lifejacket at all times

    (1)     The master of a recreational vessel or a hire and drive vessel of a type listed in Column 2 of Table A or D in Schedule 4 must ensure that every person aged less than 12 years old who is on an open area of the vessel wears a compulsory lifejacket at all times when the vessel is underway on coastal waters.

Penalty:     20 penalty units.

    (2)     The master of a recreational vessel or a hire and drive vessel of a type listed in Column 2 of Table B or E in Schedule 4 must ensure that every person aged less than 12 years old who is on an open area of the vessel wears a compulsory lifejacket at all times when the vessel is underway on enclosed waters.

Penalty:     20 penalty units.

    (3)     The master of a recreational vessel or a hire and drive vessel of a type listed in Column 2 of Table C or F in Schedule 4 must ensure that every person aged less than 12 years old who is on an open area of the vessel wears a compulsory lifejacket at all times when the vessel is underway on inland waters.

Penalty:     20 penalty units.
