The purposes of this Act are to amend the Fisheries Act 1995 —
(a) to provide that seized fish, protected aquatic biota and noxious aquatic species taken or possessed in contravention of that Act are forfeited to the Crown; and
(b) to provide that if an owner of a thing seized under that Act that is subject to automatic forfeiture to the Crown does not make a claim for its return after receiving a disposal notice from an authorised officer, the thing is condemned as forfeited to the Crown; and
(c) to provide that a court may make orders condemning as forfeited to the Crown things seized that are forfeited to the Crown; and
(d) to give the courts additional powers to make orders against persons who are convicted or found guilty of offences under that Act; and
(e) to increase the penalty for interfering with authorised officers; and
(f) to prohibit the furnishing of misleading documents; and
(g) to make other miscellaneous amendments to that Act.
