(1) A conviction period is a period of—
(a) for a conviction of a child or young offender imposed under the Children's Court Act 1973 , the Penalties and Sentences Act 1985 , the Children and Young Persons Act 1989 , the Sentencing Act 1991 or the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 —5 years; or
(b) for a conviction of any other person—10 years.
(2) For the purposes of this section, the conviction period for a conviction for an offence against a foreign law is taken to be the conviction period specified in subsection (1) for a conviction for the offence under the law of Victoria that corresponds (or most closely corresponds) to that conviction.
