SERIOUS OFFENDERS ACT 2018 (NO. 27 OF 2018) - SECT 184

Officers may use force to enforce instructions in certain circumstances

    (1)     A supervision officer or a specified officer may use reasonable force to compel an offender residing at a residential facility (whether the offender is inside or outside the facility) to obey an instruction if the supervision officer or specified officer believes on reasonable grounds that the use of force is necessary—

        (a)     to prevent the offender or another person being killed or seriously injured; or

        (b)     to prevent serious damage to property.

    (2)     In compelling an offender under subsection (1) to obey an instruction, a specified officer may apply an authorised instrument of restraint to the offender if the specified officer believes on reasonable grounds that this is necessary to prevent the offender or another person being killed or seriously injured.
