(1) A member of a
co-operative is not entitled to exercise any rights of membership until
—
(a) the
member’s name appears as a member in the register of members, directors
and shares referred to in section 230(1)(a); and
(b) the
member has made a payment to the co-operative for membership or acquired a
share or interest that is provided for in the rules of the co-operative.
(2) The board of a
co-operative must ensure that the name of a person admitted to membership is
recorded as a member in the register of members, directors and shares within
28 days after the person is admitted to membership.
Penalty for this subsection: a fine of $2 000.
