(1) Subject to
subsection (2), the Commissioner may establish advisory committees and
reference groups to assist in the performance of the Commissioner’s
functions.
(2) The Commissioner
must establish advisory committees consisting of children and young people,
who the Commissioner considers are from a broad range of socio-economic and
cultural backgrounds and age groups, to assist in the performance of the
Commissioner’s functions. These committees should be established in
regional areas as well as the metropolitan area.
(3) The membership of
advisory committees should include representatives of non-government agencies
concerned with the rights, interests and wellbeing of children and young
people.
(4) The Commissioner
may discharge, alter or reconstitute an advisory committee.
(5) Subject to
subsection (2), an advisory committee is to consist of such people as the
Commissioner determines.
