(1) Nothing in
section 54, 55 or 56 renders unlawful discrimination by an employer, principal
or person —
(a)
where the employer or principal is a private educational authority; or
(b) in
the case of employment or work in a hospital or other place where a medical or
other health related service is provided, where the employer or principal is a
religious body,
if the duties of the
employment or work are for the purposes of, or in connection with, or
otherwise involve or relate to the participation of the employee in any
religious observance or practice.
(2) Nothing in
section 54, 55 or 56 renders unlawful discrimination by an employer, principal
or person on the ground of the holding or not holding of any political
conviction or the engaging in or refusal or failure to engage in any lawful
political activities with respect to the offering of employment or work to a
person as an officer within the meaning of the Electoral Act 1907 , or as a
ministerial adviser or officer, employee or worker for a political party,
member of the electoral staff of another person, or in other similar
employment or work.
