(1) This section
applies if —
(a) a
transport order is made under section 63(1), 67(1), 92(1), 112(1), 129(2) or
133(1) in respect of a person; and
(b) the
place from which the person is being transported is outside a metropolitan
area; and
(c) the
transport officer or police officer who is transporting the person forms the
opinion that the transport order is likely to expire before the person is
received into the hospital or other place to which the person is being
transported.
(2) The transport
officer or police officer may orally request an extension of the transport
order from a medical practitioner or mental health practitioner.
(3) The practitioner
may make an order (an extension order ) orally extending the transport order
from the end of the period specified in section 150(2)(b) or (c) in respect of
the order for the further period (not exceeding 72 hours) specified in the
extension order.
(4) The practitioner
must, as soon as practicable —
(a)
record the extension order in the approved form, specifying —
(i)
the date and time when the order was made; and
(ii)
the date and time when, because of the extension, the
transport order will expire;
and
(b) file
the record and give a copy to the transport officer or police officer.
(5) The transport
order cannot be extended more than once.
