(1) A request for an
identified person to be contacted by a mental health advocate may be made by
—
(a) the
identified person; or
(b) the
identified person’s psychiatrist; or
(c) a
person who has a sufficient interest in the identified person.
(2) The request may be
made to —
(a) the
mental health service where the identified person is being detained or that is
providing treatment or care to the identified person; or
(b) the
Chief Mental Health Advocate.
(3) If the request is
made to the mental health service, the person in charge of the mental health
service must ensure that the Chief Mental Health Advocate is notified of the
request as soon as practicable and, in any event, within 24 hours after the
time when the request was made.
