(1) A person shall not
explore for petroleum in the adjacent area except —
(a)
under and in accordance with a permit; or
(b) as
otherwise permitted by this Part.
Penalty: a fine of $50 000 or imprisonment for 5
years, or both.
(2) In subsection (1)
to explore for petroleum includes to conduct any geophysical survey, the data
from which is intended for use in the search for petroleum.
